This is the longest post ever, but we have a lot of catching up to do! We have been doing a lot of fun stuff around here, but I haven't been faithfully blogging so this is going to be a catch up session. First things first...Brian thought it would be fun to drive up to Park City and go shopping for one of our Family Day Saturdays. I also thought that would be fun.....until I thought about how long the drive would be with a baby that hates the car. We decided that we would just try it and if he was too hysterical by the time we reached the mouth of the canyon then we would turn around and go home. Well, to both of our surprise he was perfect the whole way there (AND the whole way back, but we'll get to that in a minute). I hadn't been up to the outlet mall in Park City for a very long time and was excited about all the baby stores that are up there. We went in just about every store, bought a bunch of fall clothes for Austen, and after about 4 hours we decided to head home. I just have to say that Austen was perfect up there! He's the kind of kid that goes with the flow, I mean whatever we're doing he is happy. I think it helps that he loves to be in his stoller and he also loves to watch people, so for right now I guess shopping is one of his favorite pastimes. (Don't tell him that when he's older!) I was a little worried about the drive home because I knew he was tired and that's usually when he loses it in the car....he isn't one to sleep in his carseat, but he did. He slept the whole way home and never cried once. I think he might be growing out of his car hating because we haven't had any freak outs for a while now. (I hope I'm not jinxing it by saying something about it...we'll see.)
A couple days after we got home from our Park City outing I thought I would try some of the clothes on Austen just to make sure they weren't going to be too big to fit him in a few months. I was shocked when I put them on because most of them fit him
already. I bought size 18-24 months. So here's to hoping that he'll be as good in the car this time when I have to drive back up there to return all the clothes. I really don't know what I'm going to do for fall because he is too fat for infant clothes, but not tall enough for toddler clothes. Taunya suggested I buy 2T (that's intended for a two year old for those of you who don't know) and just hem the pants. I don't really know how to sew except for in a straight line and I'll be honest the lines I sew aren't even straight, so anyone that wants to volunteer feel free....anyone?
Another fun thing we did was to take Austen to his first baseball game. It was a perfect summer night and so fun. Austen was perfect as usual and when he got tired he just pulled his blanket over his head (I don't know why he likes that, it makes me crazy) and fell asleep. I thought it was so funny because the announcer was
really loud and so was the crowd, but he slept right through it. I got some really cute pictures with my new cell phone, but I ended up having to take that phone back (that's an entirely different story) so all those pictures were lost. :(
Don't worry, I'm almost done! Keep reading because there are cute pictures ahead.
Austen is sooo not a Nelson for at least one reason.....he isn't bald. All my sisters and even my sister-in-law have bald babies and they stay that way for at least their first year. Not Austen! At barely 6 months old he was in desperate need of a haircut. I didn't know what to do or even who to take him to, but my sister-in-law Melissa was nice enough to help us out. I took Austen over to her house for his very first haircut! I thought he would be scared of the clippers, but he really wasn't and he didn't even cry until the very end and that was just because he was done sitting there.
Here's his before pic.

The cutting begins. He kept wanting to turn his head and see what was making that noise.
Look close at his face on this one. I think it's so funny...he's cringing.
And finally... the after pic. (This was taken by my cute 7 year old neice hence the blur) The before and after pics don't really do it justice, but it made a HUGE difference.

Oh and one last pic just because. I walked in to check on Austen the other day during naptime and this is how he was sleeping, Too funny!

ReplyDeleteAs soon as I saw this picture I almost started to cry. This is the sweetest picture I have seen of Austen since his hospital pics. He is the best little boy. I hope you are REALLY appreciating how amazing he is. I know you are, but can't help from reminding you just one more time.
